Basic Land Navigation & Map Reading for Law Enforcement and 1st Responders

Students will learn basic map reading and the utilization of tools and maps. They will learn how to interpret terrain data from a map and how it will affect their mission. They will learn how to plan and plot tactical routes. They will receive instruction on how to employ GPS and cell phones as additional tools for rural operations. Field exercises will include pace count determination, a compass course, and point-to-point map reading and land navigation.

The course will culminate in a training exercise wherein the students will work as a team, researching and plotting a route to a rural tactical target inclusive of a search and rescue mission.
